How To Kill Black Yard Ants
Most of the time black yard ants don’t cause any problems with your home, lawn or daily life. However, when a colony grows too large they can devastate patches of your lawn, or burrow into your home looking for food or new locations to start colonies. When that happens it’s time to venture outdoors and take out the problem at the source. There are a number of different ways to eliminate your ant issues is a pretty short amount of time. Here are some safe black yard ant pest control solutions you can do at home right now!

Some Safe at Home Solutions
Hot Soapy Water
Pour hot soapy water into the anthill. Use a mixture of 1-2 teaspoons of a mild Dawn dish soap with 1 gallon of hot water. Slowly pour the soapy water solution down each anthill. The hot water mixed with soap will kill most of the ants in the colony. Be careful when using this around plants as the soap and especially the hot water can damage your plants.
Orange Peels
Orange peels and vinegar can make an excellent ant-repellent spray. To make the ant repellent mix equal parts vinegar and water. Add two to three orange peels. Bring the mixture to a boil then turn the heat off. Allow the orange peels to steep in the solution overnight. The next morning pour the mixture into a spray bottle. There may be some debris on the bottom of your pot, try NOT to get these in the spray bottle. The debris may clog up the spray bottle. Be sure to give it a good shake and spray away.
Essential Oils
Use clove or citrus essential oils to kill ants and prevent them from coming back into your home. Soak a cotton ball with oil and apply it around the areas you think ants are entering your home. Keep doing this every 3 days until you don’t see any more ants.

Still Having Trouble?
But sometimes ant colonies can be large, very large…and hard to kill. Your average black garden ant colony is 4,000 – 7,000 workers, but can reach a population of 40,000! A queen can live up to 15 years, and some colonies can have 2-3 queens. Ants are hardy creatures that breed fast and dig deep. This makes them very tough to exterminate if you don’t have the knowledge or proper tools.
